When I started to look around how I can lose postpartum weight I found many weight loss workout programs. Finally I chose Focus T25 which includes exercise videos on DVD and diet plan as well.
I Have No Time!
I was extremely busy after delivery of my second daughter. As a fresh mom I had a lot of work with my newborn baby as well as with the older daughter (15 months old).
In addition, I worked on small business projects in the evenings. I couldn’t afford to do some one hour exercise. Time was my biggest concern so T25 came in first into my head.
Focus T25 workout program requires only 25 minutes of exercise per day, five days a week. There is actually “double Friday” which means two 25 minutes workouts in one day. This is too crazy for me so I do the second workout on Saturday.
The overall time plan is 10 weeks – 5 weeks of easier workouts (Alpha) + 5 weeks more difficult (Beta). I saw a lot of success stories and good looking bodies so I was really curious if this can be done in such short time.
I can already say that I was blown away by the results and it kept me well motivated to continue with T25 workouts even after 10 weeks challenge was over. I was able to lose 29 pounds in these 10 weeks and the best thing is my baby belly almost disappeared.

I Need to Start With Low Impact Workout
I gained 60 pounds which is a lot. I couldn’t lose weight after my first pregnancy because every activity hurt. I had severe pain in my back and joints.
I was afraid to buy some crazy program with too strenuous activity. Focus T25 promised modified low impact version of exercises.
This fact helped me tremendously to start working out with T25 without joint pain. The only pain I experienced so far was when muscles work and grow 🙂
Modified movements are much easier than regular and there are no jumps so my big overweight was not an issue.
I work out in slower pace so it is even easier and more suitable for me.
In addition, Focus T25 becomes more difficult gradually starting by easier exercise at first.
First five weeks (Alpha cycle) are designed to build solid foundation and get me back into good shape. Alpha has five workouts, some are a little bit easier than others. Harder workouts are done more often in the last weeks of Alpha cycle so it becomes more difficult later.
Second five weeks are more strenuous (Beta cycle). However, I was able to do one workout from this Beta cycle on my very first day with T25 thanks to the modified low impact version and slower pace. And yes, it was pretty crazy to do this on the first day but it was a mistake – my husband put wrong DVD into the player 🙂
Focus T25 has even more tough part (Gamma cycle) which might be purchased later separately. Basic kit which I bought contained only Alpha and Beta cycle.
I Want Home Exercise
I cannot lose time by commuting to the gym. And I know this would became an easy excuse not to go there.
I also like comfort and privacy which I have in my home. I didn’t want any of these great looking bodybuilding guys to see me gasping and struggling.
It Must Entertain Me
The gym is so boring for me! I don’t like to be an hour on elliptical or treadmill and do the same exercise forever. I need diversity to be entertained.
Each 25 minutes of T25 workout contains wide variety of movements and those doesn’t have to be repeated too often during one workout.
I also like that every day and even every week with T25 is different.
11 workouts alternate every day so I don’t have to do the same exercise over and over. Weekly plan also changes and weeks become slowly harder and harder.
I Want to Eat Tasty Meals, Not Just Seeds!
Focus T25 includes also diet plan designed to lose weight (Get It Done Nutrition Guide).
It contains 25 recipes (5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners and 10 snacks), promising only 5 ingredients and 5 minutes to prepare the meal. However, some lunches and dinner require make-ahead cooking, so it takes longer total time.
It surprised me that most meals were really tasty and some of them became my favorites.
Nutrition guide also shows 25 healthy ingredients and give useful information why particular meal is beneficial.
Every meal description contains ingredients amounts, preparation steps and nutritional information such as calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, fiber, sugars and protein.
The meal plan offers two basic options – 1,200 calories and 1,600 calories per day.
I made a research and found out that both options would be probably insufficient for me since I am breastfeeding and have bigger overweight. Some experts say that breastfeeding alone burns several hundreds calories per day (it could be even 500) and thus I increased my daily calorie intake to at least 2,000 calories.
I took an inspiration from favorite recipes in official nutrition guide and modified them to reach sufficient amounts of calories, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins etc. I also had to prepare more recipes since official meal plan doesn’t contain many. The major goal of this website is to show these recipes and serve as a cookbook of healthy meals for the whole family (including kids).
Basic kit also includes Fast Track – restricted meal plan for 5 days, allowing only 1,100 calories daily intake. I didn’t try it but friend of mine (also mom, not breastfeeding, weighing under 160 pounds) did and summarized the whole experience as constant hunger.
My Experience With T25 Workout
The great benefit of T25 workout is that I can adjust it to my current fitness level and once I get in better level I can work out more intensively.
However, the very beginning was really tough for me. Although I performed exercises in much slower pace in modified low impact version, it was still very strenuous workout. Obviously sudden change from doing nothing for several years to pretty intense training brings the shock for the body. I was sore the whole first week of T25 challenge. Soreness of my muscles disappeared during second week of T25 challenge and I started to enjoy my active life.
I perform better every day. The exercises which were unimaginable at the very beginning were doable without serious struggling after 3 weeks of T25 challenge. Well, this doesn’t mean it is easy. There is still plenty of space to work out much harder by doing regular version of exercises and increasing speed. I know that I will always sweat if I want to lose weight or keep myself in good condition.
The best thing is that I feel much better now. I am already not that big clumsy mom gasping when going upstairs. I can look at myself in the mirror and be happy because my baby fat is already away, woohooo 🙂
After the whole week I feel like every muscle in my body got proper training. Each workout is focused on some part of the body (legs, abs, arms) or skill (speed, strength, resistance etc.). It is a combination of muscle strengthening and cardio exercise, sometimes called High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Studies show that this is more effective than cardio or muscle training performed alone in shorter time.
Alpha cycle (first five weeks) consists of these 5 workouts:
- Total Body Circuit – in my opinion, the most strenuous workout of the Alpha cycle, very intense for the whole body
- Ab Intervals – second most difficult for me, since I didn’t have any abs after two pregnancies
- Lower Focus – usually makes my legs feel like they are burning in the hell
- Cardio – became quite doable
- Speed 1.0 – the easiest for me, I could do almost everything in regular version after 2 weeks of T25 challenge
I was surprised that transition to Beta cycle wasn’t so tough as was the beginning of the whole T25 challenge.
- Core Cardio – the most difficult T25 workout for me, very strenuous exercise for my legs
- Dynamic Core – difficult but my favorite, all my body parts get something from it (well balanced)
- Speed 2.0 – crazy cardio, jumping all the time, however I was able to perform all exercises in regular version from the first week of Beta
- Rip’t Circuit – again I like that the whole body is trained, but it is easier (I have done almost every exercise in regular version in the first week of Beta)
- Upper Focus – easiest workout for me, great for upper parts of the body

Shaun T. – the Creator And Instructor of Focus T25
Shaun T. is very charismatic guy with dream body who will guide you through the whole T25 workout program. He often motivates during the workout and when he is asking “how are you feeling, guys?” I want to scream: “Like in the hell, Shaun!”. But I am usually short of breath so I just focus on performing my exercise 🙂
Shaun sometimes describes how to perform exercise, for example which muscle should be squeezed. I would actually appreciate if he does it more often.
Technical Details of T25 Videos
Before each video with workout starts you can choose subtitles (English and Spanish version) and loudness of the music.
There is one feature I really like – I can see how much time remains till the end of some exercise and what will be the next one. It motivates me to hold on when I know that I need just a few more seconds and after that comes something easier.

The price of T25 is the same as for P90X3 Base Kit (similar weight loss program). There are also some cheaper programs on the market but they didn’t convince me so I didn’t try them.
One thing is pretty clear – I have to workout hard and eat healthy to reach significant results. This will not happen overnight and there will be yet a lot of sweat in order to reach my overall goal (going from pre-delivery weight of 239 lbs to final 150 lbs).
I can truly say that these 140 bucks were well worth it to spend (in my case). I don’t have to think which workout is the most effective and suitable for me. I simply follow T25 which guides me step by step closer to my goal. I have already seen significant results after few weeks. I really love to see that progress, it is a great motivation to go much further.
Thanks to T25 we (me and my husband) changed our lifestyle to much healthier and it is fun! We will do everything to keep it and teach it our kids too.
